Project UPLIFT

Managing epilepsy can be hard enough on its own. When you add depression, it can be even more challenging. If you are an adult with epilepsy who is experiencing symptoms of depression, Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan can help – through an evidence-based program called Project UPLIFT.

This program includes:

  • eight one-hour sessions with a psychologist specializing in epilepsy and depression
  • sessions are conducted weekly over the phone
  • sessions will include 5 – 15 participants, all of whom have epilepsy
  • each session will include information and activities which will strengthen your ability to prevent or manage depression and stress
  • group discussion with participants will help you to learn from each other’s challenges and successes

Among people with epilepsy and depression who completed this program through Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan, 68% experienced clinically significant reductions in depression scores (defined as 5 or more points on the PHQ-9). Participants’ depression scores were reduced by an average of 46%.
