Seizure Smart Program

The Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan is committed to raising awareness of epilepsy among professionals and the public, including police & security personnel, nursing home staff, home health care workers, group home and adult day care staff, assisted living facilities, employers, vocational rehab counselors, child day care centers, college dormitories, and others.

Sometimes the only symptoms of epilepsy are frequent episodes of blank staring and unresponsiveness. Seizure Smart instructs on how to recognize different types of seizures and respond appropriately. The 45 to 60-minute Seizure Smart program will help participants to do the following:

  • Recognize different types of seizures
  • Provide appropriate first aid
  • Make necessary accommodations for people with epilepsy
  • Promote acceptance and understanding among peers
  • Identify and address other problems often associated with epilepsy

If you are ready to become Seizure Smart, contact our Director of Education, Russ Derry.
