Keynote Speaker: “Mighty Mike” Simmel

“Mighty Mike” Simmel was once a child who could not hop on one leg or even skip as a result of his slow motor skills from his epilepsy and reoccurring seizures. Despite many setbacks, nothing ever stopped him from living his dreams to the fullest. "Mighty Mike" Simmel became a member of the Harlem Wizards professional basketball team and a featured show performer at halftimes since 2001. Mike has performed at both NBA and College Halftime Shows, live on NBC's "It's Showtime at The Apollo", at the NBA's "Rhythm n' Rims Festival", and at the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four Celebration.

Mike still takes medications and lives an active and healthy lifestyle. Mike Simmel is now a national spokesman for Epilepsy Awareness. He speaks annually and performs at the Epilepsy Foundation's Kids Speak Up and US Public Policy Institute in Washington DC. In 2009, he was a principal performer and guest at the Epilepsy Foundation's National Walk for Epilepsy on the Mall in Washington, DC.

You won’t want to miss the opportunity to meet “Mighty Mike” and hear his inspirational story!

Friday night will also feature a Health Fair sponsored by St. John Providence Health System where attendees can learn about community health and wellness resources, receive health screenings, and more.
